The “lucky ones” may survive, yet end up at the vets with broken bones and sometimes life long disabilities. Many of them, however, succumb to internal injuries. Preventing such accidents is so easily done and today so many option exist that are also aesthetically acceptable – from invisible grilles, to professional meshing to DIY solutions. There is something for every household and budget.
Don’t think that your cat is “too smart to jump” or that they will “always land on their feet”. Cats can jump higher than you expect and may chase after a bird at such speed, that by the time you notice it’s too late.

While professional meshing or Invisible Grilles (<1.5 to 2in) should always be approved, for any other solution (DIY / Magnetic Mesh), please send in an adoption application so we can advise, as they will require extra inspection for safety gaps or suitability for cats that are escape artists / climbers. Meshing then can be completed during a 2 week reservation period.
Invisible grills are a good option as they are widely accepted by many property manager. But they must not be more than 1.5 inches for kittens and must not be more than 2 inches wide for adult cats. Extra stiffeners may be needed for curious and active cats.
Professional cat proofing ensures that netting is installed in a secure and safe manner. There are also options for people who rent and cannot install permanent fixtures
Fast becoming a popular option among adopters, this is a good option for people keen on security without compromising aesthetics. But bear in mind that not all options in the market are fully cat proof.
